6-MP 50 mg (Mercaptopurine)

6-MP 50 mg contains mercaptopurine, a purine antagonist used in the maintenance treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis to suppress abnormal white blood cell growth.

Product Introduction

Mercaptopurine is a thiopurine antimetabolite that inhibits purine synthesis and slows the growth of rapidly dividing leukemic cells. It is commonly used during the maintenance phase of ALL therapy, often alongside methotrexate.

Uses of 6-MP 50 mg

  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) – maintenance therapy
  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (selected protocols)
  • Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (rare or older protocols)
  • Specialist-directed autoimmune use (rare)

Note: Use only within an approved oncology protocol.

Benefits

  • Helps maintain long-term remission in ALL
  • Oral tablet suitable for home administration
  • Well-established in leukemia treatment regimens
  • Dosing can be adjusted based on genetic testing
